FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is included in the cost of the trip?
We offer all-inclusive guide trips, meaning there are no hidden fees. Our guide trips include all equipment (rods, flies, leaders, etc.) as well as transportation to and from the river. Lunch and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided for full day trips. If you have any dietary restrictions please let us know at the time of booking. The only things not included in the cost of the trip will be your Montana fishing license and gratuity for your guide.
How do we get back to the vehicle?
Log Jam Outfitters uses a shuttle service to move the vehicle from the put-in ramp to the take-out ramp. The vehicle will be waiting for us when we arrive at the boat ramp.
How much should we tip?
We recommend tipping 20% at the minimum. Guides have a lot of overhead costs for every trip and that gratuity helps cover these expenses.
What should we bring with us?
On a perfect day we'd say just bring your fishing license and that would be all you need. As we all know, Montana's weather is very unpredictable. Bringing some extra layers is never a bad idea. Guides will have space in the boat to store extra clothing. Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen are highly recommended. No dogs allowed due to liability issues.
Where should we stay?
Log Jam Outfitters has partnered with East Ridge Ranch to offer some of the best lodging in the Hamilton area. Located just 10 min from Hamilton, East Ridge Ranch is a western styled lodge with options for two, six, or eight guests. Families are welcome. Walk out to the back deck to watch the sunset over the Bitterroot mountains and even tell fishing stories around the outdoor fireplace. When staying at East Ridge Ranch the guides will pick you up and drop you off.
When will our guide contact you?
Your guide will contact you the night before your trip at the latest and a week prior to your trip at the earliest. You will discuss meet time and place with your guide. Your guide will talk to you about food and drink options. Please let them know if you have any dietary restrictions. When contacted by your guide, ask any unanswered questions, but when booking we will discuss as much as possible.
What is the best time of year to fish?
The true answer is that there isn't a bad time to fish, but there can be bad conditions. Luckly, we have all sorts of options around to get out of those bad conditions. On a more direct note, we recommend coming out to fish in April, June, July, September, and October due to a number of things. Three of the major factors would be bug life, water temperatures, and water flows. In those five months we have some of the most ideal fishing conditions in the state. Now in some of the other months that where not listed, conditions might be tough locally, but a tail water or difffernt freestone river could be fishing very well and that's when over communicating with the outfitter or guide can pay off.
